You get to Bistro Tokio by word of mouth, since it does not have a noticeable marquee on the street and it is on a first floor climbing a rather mysterious-looking staircase.

The room is quite simple and sort of deprived of too many furnishings If you get there before 8 PM, you will probably find a whole crowd of patrons who belong to the Japanese community, which is a good sign that tells me I have arrived in one of the best places in Buenos Aires to enjoy a taste of authentic Japanese food, in my humble opinion.

Thanks to a number of explanations and recommendations by our expert waiter who is 3rd generation Argentinian-Japanese and who provided great service, we ordered a tray with 26 pieces of assorted sushi -niguiri, sashimi and rolls- which was just right in terms of variety and abundance, since there were 2 temakis big rice and salmon cones wrapped in nori seaweed that are the equivalent to two or three pieces ; my favorite was the gunkan, a roll topped with Tabasco spiked guacamole, delicious.

When it comes to dessert, I am usually a little reluctant to go with typical Japanese choices but this time I ordered a lemon and ginger parfait with green tea, which was a nice surprise and a good ending for a wonderful evening tasting the best this Japanese corner in Belgrano has to offer.

My wife and I stumbled upon this place by accident, but I'm very glad we did because the food and the service here are both great. The restaurant is kind of hidden, you must walk up a small stairway from the street to go inside, The restaurant itself is quite small, and is not overwhelmingly beautiful or anything, but it is the kindness of the people who work here and the attention to small details that makes this place memorable and stand out.

The menu consist of various entry, large-party or one-portion traditional Japanese dishes, so you it is very suitable for all occasions. You get a free veggie appetizer, while you wait for your meal, the makis we had were truly fresh and delicious, I had the spicy Philadelphia rol and it is one of the best I have ever tried in my life. Dessert entries are not to varied which I would say is their only weak point. While you wait for your bill you get a free drink of hot green tea.

I also noticed a lot of Asian folks eating at the restaurant which in my personal experience has always been a sing of good meals, I ate at Benihana on Alto Palermo and did not see many of them there, after eating I certainly know why lol.

I would definitely recommend this place if you are nearby, the cost-food relation here is great, you'll have a great meal and you'll be treated like a regular customer.
