I'll be updating the details of the afternoon storms on Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there. Our weather today will be going downhill, but in a slow, not dramatic fashion. A frontal system is going to pass through the area late today and with it comes the chance for showers. Dry conditions overall will continue through the morning with the chance of showers increasing after 4 PM.

Happy Flag Day, mid-June is certainly usually much better than this. Our latest nor'easter is now pushing east and the rain will taper off later this morning. This storm has given the area exactly what any nor'easter would: heavy precipitation, wind and cold temperatures. I am expecting some additional periods of rain during the morning commute. Friday commutes tend to be a bit lighter, but with the rain this one might be slow. Be careful what you wish for. That saying is stuck in my head as I think back to the first week of May after 4 weeks of virtually no rain. Since that time we have had inches of rain and more is on the way, definitely too much of a good thing. You can see on the radar loop below more rain poised to move into the region tomorrow. I'll be updating the details of the rain on Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there.

More rain is on the way. There are flood watches up from Virginia to Maine this morning for all the heavy rain on the way. Areas in green along the east on the map below have the potential for flooding of some sort. I am expecting a general 1 to 2 inch rainstorm beginning later this afternoon and continuing overnight.

When you combine this additional rainfall with the heavy rain from Friday we start to run the risk of more urban and street flooding. Also, rivers and streams are running rather high so there can be some flooding of the smaller rivers and streams. Our storm is now pulling away to the north and east of the area and the rain is all but done.

There are still flood watches and warnings up for some small streams and rivers, but I expect those to come down during the morning and early afternoon. I'll be updating the forecast throughout the weekend on Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there. Torrential rain will continue for several hours overnight. This has prompted flood warnings to be issued for nearly the entire southern New England area. These warnings are mostly for small stream and not big river flooding.

Please be sure to check your sump pumps and if you are prone to flooding you may want to elevate any important material off the basement floor. This is going to be a system that causes urban flooding problems more than anything else. At times the rain will come down at impressive rates and make travel difficult. That is my advice for the upcoming weekend. We do have rain on the way, but most of the weekend is going to be dry and rain free. I'll be updating the latest on tropical storm Andrea on Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there.

Are you a morning or night person? Any regular reader of my blog knows what the answer is for yours truly. I have been a morning person most of my life. Except for that weird period post puberty when I use to stay up until 2 or 3 AM, I have always enjoyed the morning. This time of the year is my absolute favorite because of the morning light. It occurred to me on my walk at 5AM, if someone was a night person, and went to be at midnight or later they would only have 4 hours of total darkness before the light started coming in again.

I'll be updating the forecast for this weekend and the rain situation Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there. June can be hot or June can be cold and June can be almost anything in the middle.

The month reminds me of December in a similar way. June is the start of summer and it can be more like summer the entire month. December is the start of winter and can be more like winter the entire month. A cold and snowy December makes for a long winter.

A hot and sunny June makes for a long summer. Many of you would rather have December more like fall and June more like summer.

I'll be updating the forecast throughout the week on Twitter at growingwisdom Please follow me there. Marine air just around ground level helped to knock the stuffing out of the storms as they moved to the coast.

This not only preventing any big storms, it basically caused the storms to fall apart in their entirety before reaching the coast. Let me explain. Listen Live. Climate , David Epstein , Gardening , Thunderstorms , forecast. David Epstein , Precipitation , forecast , weather.
